REMARKS

富士山.JPG
From our schoolyard we can see Tokyo Sky Tree. The students of our school can enjoy the heroic and beautiful view of the Tokyo Sky Tree, which is 634m high, in the west direction beyond the bank of Shin-nakagawa River.
(1) How did Kamiisshiki Elementary School act during the Great East Japan Earthquake?
(At the time the earthquake happened)
Suddenly a big lunging shake came, and a wave of water in the schoolyard pool overflowed and came down onto the schoolyard. Our school children were very scared.
In the gymnasium the drawer for storage of chairs moved forward, many chairs fell down onto the floor.
We could see a fire that had broken out in the industrial complex in Ichihara City from the fourth floor of the school.
We made the school children wear hoods and evacuated them out into the schoolyard, and made efforts to avoid accidents due to aftershocks.
Fortunately there was no damage to the school building caused by this earthquake.

(Action after the earthquake)
The chairman of the school decided that the school children should be directly handed over to their parents so that they could go back home. However, this was delayed because the earthquake occurred during the day at around 14:30 and many of their parents were still at work and not at home. The last child was handed over to their parents at 21:00.
Eight teachers remained in the school to deal with some work caused by aftershocks and help refugees people who could not return home after work all night, etc.

(Anti-earthquake preparations of Kamiisshiki Elementary School carried out before the earthquake)
There was no damage because of the construction of the earthquake-resistant school building which was completed in the summer of 2010.
New first year children are provided with a hood upon entering the school and the hood is placed on the back of each chair in the classroom in case of possible disasters
Luckily since evacuation drills of the school had been performed on the day just before the Great East Japan Earthquake happened, the schoolchildren did not panic.

(Preparation for future disasters)
We have prepared a list of the registered names of schoolchildren to be handed over to their parents at the time of emergencies.
